Sequoia China Takes Broad Approach To Artificial Intelligence Investment

Sequoia Capital China, the venture capital firm founded by renowned investor Neil Shen has stakes in 29 Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) start-ups. But while some other investors take a laser focused approach to the sector, Sequoia’s portfolio includes more broadly defined AI firms such as ride hailing giant Didi Chuxing that use AI as a key component of their business, along with pure AI tech research centered players like Mobvoi.

Bioventure, Tasly Lead $14.5M Round in Chinese Device Maker POCTech Medical

Chinese medical and pharmaceutical-focused venture fund Bioventure Investment Management Ltd. and Tianjin-based medicine and healthcare investment fund Tasly Great Health Industry Fund have co-led a RMB100 million (US$14.5 million) series B round in Zhejiang POCTech Medical Corp., a company that specializes in the research and production of portable or wearable medical devices.

Eight Roads Ventures Leads Series C Round In Chinese Parenting Platform MAMA+

Eight Roads Ventures, formerly Fidelity Growth Partners, has led a series C round investment in Beijing-based parenting platform MAMA+. GSR Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Steamboat Ventures, the venture capital arm of The Walt Disney Company, and unnamed Chinese investment institutions also participated in the financing round, which is reportedly worth tens of million of U.S. dollars.

Legend-Backed Payment Platform Lakala Files for ChiNext Listing

Beijing-based third-party payment platform Lakala Payment Co., Ltd., backed by Chinese Legend Holdings, is planning for listing on ChiNext, the NASDAQ-style bourse of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, after the company’s planned back-door listing via a reverse merger with Shanghai-listed Tibet Tourism failed to materialize.
