Warburg Pincus Led $100M Investment In Amcare

Beijing-based Amcare Women’s & Children’s Hospital has received investment totaling US$100 million from investors including lead investor Warburg Pincus, according to media reports.

The investment was made public previously in September, but the size of the deal was not disclosed then.

China Everbright Group and China Space Fund are also listed as co-investors, according to Amcare’s website.

The high-end Chinese hospital currently has three hospitals in Beijing and Tianjin, as well as a postpartum care center in Beijing.

Amcare plans to open new hospitals in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Wuhan in the next several years, according to a company announcement.

Founded in 2004, Amcare’s revenue in 2013 has already reached over RMB300 million ($50 million). The hospital has completed deliveries of over 10,000 babies.

Established more than 40 years ago, Warburg Pincus has invested more than US$45 billion in over 675 companies around the world. In China, it has invested in 125 companies including 7 Days Group, GOME Electrical Appliances and Yintai Department Stores.

Warburg Pincus invested in a number of healthcare companies in China such as Harbin Pharmaceutical Group, Lepu Medical and PWMedtech.
