Chinese Firms Record Dismal IPO Performance In January

Only nine Chinese companies completed initial public offerings in January, raising a total of RMB3.8 billion, down 73.5% and 72.7% year-on-year respectively, according to data released by data tracker ChinaVenture.

One Chinese company listed on Shenzhen’s Small & Medium Enterprise Board, while eight were listed in Hong Kong.

The number is distorted as Chinese regulators are in the process to launch a new registration-based system for IPOs in the country.

As of January 28, 2016, a total of 747 Chinese companies are in line to proceed with their IPOs in China.

Among these, 102 companies have won government approvals, signaling the Chinese stock market is likely be pressured with a large number of IPOs this year.

There is no initial public offerings by Chinese companies in the U.S. in January.
